About Hikari Hikari, the "originator" of Species Specific and premium aquatics diets has been copied by many, but our loyal customers know they can always depend on our products to offer their aquatic pets the finest in scientifically balanced nutrition. For almost 140 years we've spent considerable time exploring natural habitats of fish, breeding fish in our own facilities, producing diets in our own factories, processing every shipment through our own facilities and researching the impact our diets have over time. These unique insights into the nutritional needs of fish give a competitive advantage no other fish food maker can duplicate and allow us to produce species specific diets that will not only maintain your aquatic pets' health, but assist you in keeping your aquarium or pond in top form. We make the health and longevity of the fish and the aquatic environment they live in our first priority. Focusing on bringing about success to the hobbyist through exacting nutrition has allowed us to develop a brand name synonymous with superior quality. Consider using Hikari, because you love your aquatic pets as much as they love you! Why Customers Choose Hikari RESEARCH We feel it's our duty to constantly investigate the natural ecology of fish to make the best food for them. Our exploration to Irian Jaya, Lake Malawi in Africa, Guiana highland, the Indian Ocean, the jungle of Southeast Asia and the Holy River Ayeyawady and others, offer us many secrets to fish health, coloration, breeding requirements, water conditions and quality. SPECIES SPECIFIC DIETS Hikari offers a wide variety of diets for different species of fish, each offering unique characteristics which enable it to be readily accepted by the specific fish it was developed for, which is where Species Specific originated. This attention to detail allows you to be confident your choice will be quickly devoured by even the most finicky eaters. TECHNOLOGY Our first hand experience breeding and raising fish, and the scientific data we can collect during this process, give us a clear road map for future product improvements and enhancements. Hikari uses actual experience and physical practice instead of marketing schemes or unproven theory to develop our premium aquatic diets! My arowana loves this stuff ,and the shipping is very fast.. I would buy it again.Have to buy onlineWe recently added a baby black Arowana to the fish room and I had a devil of a time getting the little guy to eat. Black Arowanas are not cheap and when very small they need to eat quite frequently. I tried bloodworms, which is what the shop had been feeding him. No luck. I tried krill, plankton and even smacked houseflies. No dice. He has tank mates--clown loaches and a sailfin plecostemus--so I didn't want to get him into eating live fish. It looked like we might lose him if something didn't give.I wasn't entirely impressed with the ingredient list for Hikari Tropical Food Sticks, which is why I docked a star. There are a lot of starches and fillers like wheat, corn, soy, rice and potato that these fish would never eat in the wild, along with artificial red dye.But I'll be darned if it didn't get the little booger eating. He attacked his very first stick with a vengeance. While he seemed to enjoy the "fight" I will now break the sticks in half until he's bigger to make swallowing easier. If he keeps that up, soon enough he'll be eating whole sticks and then the Jumbo size in no time.I do like that these sticks readily soften up in the water for easy eating and that the shape seems to draw his attention. He eats them with relish. This stuff might very well have saved him from starvation.Fillers or no, I've got to hand it to Hikari for making a food that is palatable and appealing even to a very persnickety baby Arowana. So much cheaper to buy this bag as apposed to the name brand in stores. My jerk fish doesn’t eat anything but the expensive stuff, but I didn’t even have to faze him into this instead so it’s pretty damn close to the stuff on thie shelves for the same price but smaller bag. Highly recommend. I never had any problems with it. I just put the food in mason jars to keep freshness and easier to handle than the big bagArowana loves it.I use this for my large mouth bass in my 50 gallon( soon to be a much larger tank) and they love it!While you do need to train your fish to eat it, they will. I quit feeding my Arowana, both Silver and Jardini, for about a week. Then threw in a few sticks. They will spit it out at first but will eventually eat it. The Hungarian Gar takes longer to train, but if there is no other competition for these food sticks, the Gar will eat it. Note for the Gar, you need to slam the food into the water or have some current that will push the food down, like the waterfall from an external filter. Cichlids, and goldfish will also it these, but its too expensive to use as gold fish food. Cichlids fill up fast with these. Also, Blood Parrots eat em too.Its a good supplemental food for your fish if you're looking for something new to add to their diet. They float for a very long time, roughly half a day or until your fish drags it underwater. At first my arowana didn't want them but now he will eat them and my other fish (clown loach, black knife fish, glass catfish) will eat them.Good product and good value for moneyGood value for the moneyThese are amazing and all my fish love these I buy these all the times I buy at least 5 bags a monthFantastic. My Arowana won't eat anything else ( except swordtails ) ?Very poor quality, will not recommend to anyone. Lots of discoloring in tank and formation of frothing. Whole tank is getting impacted. Have to clean tank frequently now to keep my Arowana healthy. Seems duplicate stuff supplied. Did not face any problem for the past 7-8 years in Hikari products. Inspite of paying premium price, end up with such poor quality .
